First day of my life...

... on the Road at least!

sunny 25 °C
View Brazil to California on moonflower's travel map.

Yesterday morning I arrived 1,5 hours late in São Paulo and was frightened that the driver my friend Renata should have organized would already have left the airport. And I was kind of worried of the passport control because a "friend" told me about his trips to Brazil and how they didn't wanted to let him in unless he pays...
But in the end all my worries were for nothing and in less than an hour (which is very good for this place) I arrived at Renatas house.
WOW!! The whole area looks like straight out of a Hollywood movie or at least Beverly Hills 90210: lush garden patches, clean streets, one villa after the other... Alphaville, the name of the "barrio" is one of the richer districts of greater São Paulo and the security guards who cycle through the quarter as well as the entry control station (no idea what one word in English could describe this - it looks like the boarder from one country to another where you have to show your passport to the guard, only that it is the address and a confirmation of the person you want to visit) underline this fact. But it's a safe area and therefore a quiet refuge after a more than 15 hours trip squeezed in an airplane seat without any space for my legs!
Renatas mother, Lidia, took me grocery shopping and after that to the restaurant, she and her husband run. The food was delicious, not only because I got it for free!!
I accompanied Renata to the school where she teaches and freshed up my Spanish at the computer. Because I don't speak Portuguese (yet), I want at least be able to communicate in Spanish. But because Renatas family is more into Latin languages (her father is Italian), I might even be able to learn some Portuguese... We'll see.

Tonight I will meet Maria Augusta, another friend I met in Montréal four years ago. We will go to Rio together for some days to visit her older son and his family - and I hope we'll go as well on a little sightseeing tour.
But before all this, I will go to the mall with Renata to get some "hawaianas", the famous Brazilian flip-flops!!! Women and shoes... although I am more into bags and packpacks. Still exeptions confirm the rule and everyone needs an addiction, don't you think?!

Sodeli, aber jetzt muessi erscht no chli go sünnele - beor d'Renata hei chunnt und mich wider wege minere wisse Huut ufzieht! Bis zum nächschte Mol!
